More than 250 people at Saint-Lazare Earth Day
SAINT-LAZARE - Lucie Brisson and Patricia Meier are very happy and proud with the successful Earth Day, which was held in Saint-Lazare on Saturday, April 21, 2007. "More than 250 people came, many were families with their young children, they enjoyed seeing the diversity and myriad collection of exhibits on display. It is the second Earth Day we have organized, and, we hope to do it again next year," they report.
"Our Earth Day showed the spirit of solidarity and commitment of our community. We are working together for the environment. We believe that everyone found something stimulating at the show, and, left with renewed motivation. We were very generous, and, it was all free. We didn't want people to take their wallets out of their pockets. We just wanted people to be happy and to come back next year," Ms. Meier told Première Édition.

Visitors were given a warm greeting by the hostess as they entered the day-long exhibition. There were drawings for free bags of groceries donated by local supermarkets. Everyone received a free Metro or IGA shopping bag. There was a free lunch for everyone with lots of baked treats.

Micro-Recyc, collected discarded computers and printers, which will be repaired and recycled. Ferme Tourne-Sol, Club ornithologique de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Oxfam Quebec, La Coalition Verte, were some of the exhibitors.
Student displays

On display were colorful drawings related to Earth Day by seven and eight year-old students of Grade 1 and 2 at Evergreen School, organized by their teacher, Julie Bélanger.

Anthony D. Chevrier and Ariane Bennet, both 16 -years'old and Secondary level 5 students at l'École de la Cité-des-Jeunes, displayed an electric-operated automatic recycling machine, which was a project for Expo-sciences. Mr. Chevrier explained that he "had dreamed up" the idea, and it took about 50 hours to build it,"
Books on environment

Books on the environment were on display from the Saint-Lazare library. Michel Piché, librarian, was on hand to answer questions. "We have more than 200 books on the environment at the Saint-Lazare library. Some of our most popular authors are David Suzuki, Hubert Reeves, Laure Waridel, Edith Smeesters, and Olga Prin, who lives in Saint-Lazare," reported Ms. Meier.
