Hudson business owner Deborah George stocks local products like quality books of Canal Paper that is made in Montreal.(Kristina Edson)
Shop owner with ready-made opportunity
A revitalization of sorts in Hudson’s downtown core will dim just a little if a local art supply store is to close its doors.
Shop owner Deborah George does not want that to happen, so she’s ready to make a deal with would-be entrepreneurs looking for a ready-made opportunity.
George, who opened her art supply, paper and stationary store last November, recently learned that she and her husband will return to their native Australia for her husband’s work.
The spunky Aussie says she feels the charming little shop on Cameron near Main fills a much needed niche in Hudson and she would like to see it continue with a new owner.
The store, called Deborah George, specializes in quality art supplies, paints, stationary, gifts and paper. Most of the things she sells are made in Montreal or in Canada.
Art supply papers and drawing pads made by Canal Paper or Papeterie Saint-Armand, for instance, make even an art neophyte wish they could draw.
George says the richly textured cold-press mediums are hand-made, while hot-press papers, made from things such as cotton, linen, or even recycled denim are run through special machines.
The store has garnered a growing clientele, noted George, who says she would hate to see her regulars turned away.
George and her husband will return to Australia at the end of July.
