Auction proceeds will help less fortunate

In the end four tickets in the Desjardins section to a Montreal Canadiens hockey game garnered the highest bid during Tuesday’s Royal Lepage Cavagnal Christmas Charity Auction that was held at the Hudson Village Theatre.

The tickets helped auction organizers score more than $1,000 alone that will be used to aid as many as 40 families in need over the holiday season.

In all, more than $22,000 was raised during the 30th annual charity auction, said Janet Ellerbeck, a founding auction member.

Other popular items which helped bring in much needed proceeds included a $625 bid for the time of four Hudson firefighters, who will each give two hours to the winning bidder.

And Remax agents helped raise the tally, as well, said Ellerbeck. A chair donated by one netted $675, while a plate of cookies baked by another garnered $130. Homemade baked beans brought in another $85.

“Normally when you donate money to charity you get nothing in return, but here you get a plate of baked beans,” noted Ellerbeck, with a laugh.

Proceeds from the auction will go into a trust fund established by the town of Hudson and used by its fire department to help make holiday baskets for less fortunate families in many MRC towns.

Funds will also help stock the shelves for Hudson’s Le Pont Bridging Food Bank, and could be used during the year to aid fire victims.
