Police seek publics’ help in car vandalism spree
Hood ornaments prime target for thieves
If your teen has a sudden or growing collection of car hood emblems, then Sûreté du Québec police would like to know about it.
Following a rash of car vandalisms during the past week, primarily in Île-Perrot, Pincourt and Vaudreuil-Dorion, police are asking parents and citizens to report all suspicious activity in order to help them put an end to what they are calling a vandalism spree.
More than a dozen residents from several Vaudreuil-Soulanges areas have reported that their cars have been damaged for no apparent reasons during the past week with broken windows and mirrors, scratched paint and snapped car antennas. Vandals also seem to focus on removing car emblems from vehicles, leading police to suspect that those responsible are collecting the metal hood ornaments.
In addition to the various costs for repairs to vehicles, police say the vandals are causing insecurity in the region.
“We are asking people to be vigilant and keep an eye out in their neighbourhoods,” said SQ Sgt. Jean-Charles Filion, adding that parents should speak to their kids and police if they notice that the kids are in possession of unexplained valuables or car hood ornaments.
To report any suspicious activity call Detective-Sergeant Rock Soucy at 450 424-1212.
