Jardim & Olivenstein: Saint-Lazare/Rigaud candidates
Dorval – The Lester B. Pearson School Board is hoping for a good turnout when voters go to the polls tomorrow, Sunday, November 4 to elect two school commissioners in the school divisions of Saint-Lazare/Rigaud and West Island Southwest.
Armaldo Jardim, from Saint-Lazare, and Daniel Olivenstein, Rigaud, are the two candidates in Division #21 /Saint-Lazare/Rigaud. July Kelley, Beaconsfield, and Don Rae, Pointe-Claire, are the candidates in Division #18/West-Island Southwest.

In the advance polls held on sunday, October 28, 30 electors voted in Division #21 Saint-Lazare/Rigaud, out of the 3 521 eligible voters. And 58 voted in Division #18, West-Island Southwest, out of 3 366 eligible voters. The school board hopes that its publicity campaign in local newspapers and mailing out notices to electors will increase the number of electors who will turn out to vote.

“As a McGill University professor, I believe that one of the responsibilities that a society has is to provide young people with an educational system that will foster learning and development regardless of their background. As a father of five daughters that have been educated in the Lester B. Pearson School Board, I am impressed by the excellent quality and diversity of programs offered by the public education system. I hope to work with the local community and schools to continue providing an excellent learning environment for our children. I will focus on including the timely expansion of Westwood Senior High School; the building of a new elementary school in the Saint-Lazare/Vaudreuil-Dorion regions to accommodate the rapidly growing population; and adult and vocation education for the off-island district,” says Mr. Jardim’s. @ST:Daniel Olivenstein “I am the parent of a Grade 9 student at Westwood Senior. I have been involved in education for 30 years as a special education teacher for the English Montreal School Board as well as the Cree School Board. Education is my passion and commitment. I have been involved for the past eight years as a Governing Board member, chairperson, and parent representative at Mount Pleasant; as Governing Board member, parent representative, and Central Parent Committee representative at Westwood and as Transportation representative for the past six years. I am committed to establishing effective special education policies and programs, ensuring that safe schools policies regarding bullying and harassment are followed; expanding decent vocational and adult education to our neglected off-island region; safeguarding our vital transportation network and promoting a culture of “Let’s work together for our kids”, says Mr. Olivenstein. @:Division #21 – 3 521 electors There are 3 521 eligible electors in division #21, which comprises the municipalities of Saint-Lazare, Rigaud and Pointe-Fortune; and parts of Hudson and Vaudreuil-Dorion, situated Northwest of Côte Saint-Charles (southeast side) and its extension North.
