The ins and outs of Cyber-Bullying
Educators and parents wanting to better understand the difference between bullying and cyber-bullying, and the often blurred legal results of such aggression, can attend a John Abbott College seminar taking place early next week.
Dr. Shaheen Shariff of McGill University will delve into the educational and legal issues surrounding cyber-bullying, as well as the blurred legal boundaries created when people bully in cyber-space. She’ll help educators understand when they are obliged to intervene if students engage in cyber-bullying and on-line expressions that demean and defame professors, teachers and authority figures.
Cyber-libel, freedom of expression laws and human rights laws will also be discussed.
The free cyber-bullying seminar will be held Mon., April 14, 1:00 p.m., at John Abbott College, 21275 Lakeshore Road, Ste. Anne de Bellevue in the Agora.
