Opération Nez rouge November 30 to December 31
Vaudreuil-Dorion - As the festive season is approaching, again, this year, the volunteer drivers of Opération Nez rouge are offering a safe ride home on 13 weekend evenings from November 30 to December 31.
For the 15th year, covering the region from Pointe-Fortune to Notre-Dame-de-l’Île -Perrot, more than 300 volunteers will be meeting at the Nez rouge headquarters at the Centre d’action bénévole L’Actuel in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
« Pour un Super Retour, on appelle un ami, un parent, un taxi ou Opération Nez rouge » is this year’s motto. There are two easy numbers: 450 424-4011 or 1-866-Desjardins.
Last year, more than 48 000 people in Quebec took advantage of Nez rouge is drive-home-safe services. This year, it is estimated that more than 70 000 people will use this popular service. The Societé de l’assurance automobile du Quebec (SAAQ) reports that 30 % of accidental deaths on the highways are due to alcohol consumption. From 2001 to 2005, 43 % of young drivers who died had alcohol in their blood. More than 90 regions in seven provinces are taking part in Opération Nez rouge this year.
Donations received will be given to the Centre bénévole L’Actuel, in Vaudreuil-Dorion. “During the past year, L’Actuel has provided more than 12 000 services to families, adolescents, and close to 1000 children under the age of 17,” said Carole Marcoux, vice-president of Opération Nez rouge is executive committee, at the press conference.
