Hudson residents object to MRC’s control
360-litre recycling bins “unspeakably ugly”
Hudson - The delivery of new 360-litre recycling bins to Hudson property owners brought two long-time Hudson residents out to protest that the bins were “unspeakably ugly and not acceptable” and asked that Hudson council voice their complaints to the MRC.
John Luxton and June Penney drew loud applause from the large group of residents in attendance, as they voiced their complaints during the Hudson council meeting. During the long, one-half hour discussion, Mayor Elizabeth Corker explained that the “provincial government has ordered all the MRCs in the province to improve the volume of recycling from 20 % to 60 % in a short time frame. Starting in January 2008, fines will be levied. The new 360-litre bins will be emptied by an automatic arm attached to the recycling truck”.
Anger @R:“I am not happy with its huge size. I have no place to put it. I would need a three-car garage to store it. It is unspeakably ugly, and not acceptable. An elderly woman says it is impossible for her to move the bin down her long driveway”, said Mr. Luxton.

“Hudson is bound by principle to work with the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC. Back in 1991, Hudson started fighting against the new bins at MRC meetings, but we were ignored. I am asking everyone to keep an open mind and see how it goes. During the past week, we have received a mix of calls, for and against the new bins,” added Mayor Corker.

“I would like to offer an alternative – that Hudson set up a central location for recycling, where we could bring our recycling in our cars and dump it there”, suggested Mr. Luxton. “With the introduction of the larger bins, I think Hudson’s recycling participation will go down. People will not be able to recycle, as they cannot move the larger bins. I will go to the next MRC meeting on November 27th to voice my opposition”, said June Penney.
