History buffs, antique & memorabilia collectors invited
Treasures in the Attic
Hudson – Greenwood Centre for Living History is holding its 9th annual "Treasures in the Attic today", Saturday, September 29.
History buffs, antique and memorabilia collectors are invited to bring their treasures to be evaluated. A team of nine professional evaluators will be on hand to provide expertise in a variety of popular areas, including military objects, textiles and toys. Peter Baker is a regular on the Canadian Antiques Road Show, and has particular expertise in rural antique Canadian furniture and 18th and 19th century Quebec items. Jennifer Millen, formerly a museum curator, is a teacher at LaSalle College and her specialty is fabrics, textiles and costumes. Maureen Decelles is a practicing gemologist with special interest and knowledge of antique jewelery.
Ross Wilson is another Canadian Antiques Road Show expert, who specializes in military objects. Victor Isganaitis focuses on European, Canadian and American decorative and fine art. Frank Hicks is a specialist in memorabilia and North American and European decorative and fine art.
Roberto Menard is an expert in the area of nostalgia items and toys. Bill Whetstone is a specialist in coins, jewelery and antique silver. Lise Labelle focuses on china and crystal for the table. The event raises funds for the ongoing upkeep of Greenwood Centre, a historic property overlooking the Lake of Two Mountains, which dates back to 1731. Greenwood’s last owner, Phoebe Hyde, the daughter of Montreal architect Percy Nobbs, bequeathed the home to the Canadian Heritage of Quebec with the stipulation that it be preserved and shared with the public. Treasures in the Attic is open to the public and drop-in appraisals are welcome, starting at 10 a.m., at St. James Anglican Church at 642 Main Road in Hudson. For information: 450 458-5398.
