Rigaud –In good weather or bad weather, local farmers display their produce for sale at their kiosks at the open air market, situated at the corner of St. Jean Baptiste and St. Viateur, near Parc Desjardins in Rigaud every Friday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We consider the market is a “Super Window” for everyone to start their weekend. The week’s work is done, and, everyone is looking forward to winding down. First, they come to the market. Then they go to the large supermarkets to finish their weekly shopping », explains Claude Lebel, coordinator. ”Our counters estimate that from 700 to 1,200 people turn up each Friday. Most are from Rigaud, but others are from as far away as Pointe Fortune, Île-Perrot, Valleyfield, and Vaudreuil-Dorion. The market has been a long time coming. For almost 10 years, people have been talking about bringing a market to Rigaud”, says Mr. Lebel. @ST:Visibility @R:“The purpose of the market is to give visibility to the local farmers, and to re-establish a good old community spirit, where people can socialize, meet old and new friends. The fresh produce on sale includes fruits and vegetables, bread, cheese, meat, “pintade” (a brown poultry originating from Africa), honey, sauces, soaps, scrapbooking and jewellery,” Mr. Lebel explained. Each Friday has a special theme. On September 28 it will be “Potages chauds et fumants”, on October 5, will feature the Festival des Couleurs, on October 12 & 19, the theme will be “Courges et citrouilles”. For information:
